About the Chapter:

The Lehigh Valley Chapter of the Society for Neuroscience is a local affiliate of the National Chapter of the Society for Neuroscience (SfN). The Society for Neuroscience is the largest professional organization committed to the discipline of neuroscience worldwide. The Lehigh Valley SFN Chapter is composed of primarily neuroscience faculty, undergraduates, graduate students, clinicians and interested public. This local chapter is dedicated to fostering a sense of social responsibility and leadership abilities in all Lehigh Valley Chapter members as they engage in scholarship and educating the public about the brain and benefits of neuroscience research through Brain Awareness Outreach Programs.


The Society for Neuroscience Mission

  1.  To advance the understanding of the brain and nervous system by bringing together scientists of diverse backgrounds, by facilitating the integration of research directed at all levels of biological organization, and by encouraging translational research and the application of new scientific knowledge to develop improved disease treatment and cures;
  2. To provide professional development activities, information, and educational resources for neuroscientists at all stages of their careers and increase participation of scientists from a diversity of cultural and ethnic backgrounds;
  3. To promote public information and general education about the nature of scientific discovery and the results and implications of the latest neuroscience research;
  4. To inform legislators and other policymakers about new scientific knowledge and recent developments in neuroscience research and their implications for public policy, societal benefit, and continued scientific progress.

The Lehigh Valley SFN Chapter also offers benefits of obtaining:

  1. Graduate student Society for Neuroscience travel grant
  2. Postdoc Society for Neuroscience travel grant
  3. Grass Traveling Scientist Award (This lecture series enables local chapters to host leading neuroscientists at their institutions).
  4. Chapter Grant Applications (Awards from $500 to $2000 are available from the Society for Neuroscience to support and encourage chapter activities)
